Next Paolini Book!

January 22, 2008

The title and date of the third book in Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance series was just released. On September 20, 2008, BRISINGR will be available to the public.

BRISINGR (BRIS-ing-gr), an Old Norse word for fire, will be familiar to fans of the cycle as the first word in the ancient language that Eragon hears. “BRISINGR is one of the first words I thought of for this title, and it’s always felt right to me,” said Christopher Paolini. “As the first ancient-language word that Eragon learns, it has held particular significance for his legacy as a Dragon Rider. In this new book, it will be revealed to be even more meaningful than even Eragon could have known.”

For those of us who loved Eragon and Eldest, September can’t come soon enough! Here’s a picture of the cover to whet your appetites!

Death Mountain

January 9, 2008

Those grade 5 students who have heard me speak about the adventure genre before, may remember my talking about one of my favorites, a book titled Frozen Stiff by Sherry Shahan. I enjoyed it because the setting involved one of my favorite pastimes, kayaking.

Well, Sherry Shahan has a more recent title in the same genre and it just came out in paperback. Death Mountain tells the story of 14 year-old Erin who is hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains when a sudden storm descends. Erin and another girl she had befriended must rely on their own determination and skills, as well as each other, to survive hunger, freezing nights, exhaustion and injuries. Author Shahan uses many details to evoke the desperate situation the girls face, similar to Gary Paulsen and Will Hobbs.

Let me know if you enjoy this!                                                Mrs. Aveline

This is an excellent book.  Have you ever wondered how Peter and the lost boys arrived at Neverland. Well wonder no more. Read this book and you will be “Hooked” into a new series. Peter and the Starcatcher is just the beginning. If you love it you will need to read Peter and the Shadow Theives.  I also heard the brand new Peter and the Secret of Rundoon is now available.

The Book Thief is a story about a girl who loves books. It is set in Nazi Germany. It tells of the compassion and courage of one family. Zusak uses a unique narrator to tell his story about Liesel Meminger in Molching, Germany.
